RHRA remembers Board Vice Chair Barbara Sullivan
It is with a heavy heart that the RHRA has learned of the passing of its Vice Chair of the Board of Directors, Barbara Sullivan, on January 24, 2021. Barbara was first appointed as Director to the Board in December of 2013. She was re-appointed twice, serving a seven-year long tenure on the Board. During her service, Barbara was elected to serve as Vice Chair of the Board in January of 2018, and she held that role for three consecutive one-year terms until December of 2020. Barbara was also actively involved in multiple committees and held membership and leadership positions including Chair of the Governance and Regulatory Affairs Committee.
Prior to her involvement with the RHRA, Barbara served as a Member of the Provincial Parliament for Halton Centre from 1987 to 1995. During that time, she chaired the government caucus and the Select Committee on Energy, and she was Opposition Critic for Health and the Environment in addition to being a Commissioner on the Board of Internal Economy. Active in community affairs, Barbara also served as Chair of Hamilton Health Sciences Corporation, Director of Country Heritage Park, Chair of the Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Vice-Chair of Ontario’s Commission on Election Expenses, and Director of Oaklands Centre for developmentally disabled adults.
Barbara is remembered for her dedication to public service, her meaningful contributions to good governance and thoughtful work guiding the RHRA in its mission and mandate. Her passion for protecting seniors across the province of Ontario will have a lasting impact on those she helped. She will be dearly missed.
