Now Available: New Mandatory Reporting Compliance Guidance
October 29, 2026
We’re pleased to announce the release of our new Mandatory Reporting Compliance Guidance, a practical resource designed to support retirement home licensees, operators and staff in understanding mandatory reporting requirements.
Mandatory reporting plays an important role in supporting resident safety and helping retirement homes respond appropriately when incidents involving harm or risk of harm occur. This new guidance provides information to help retirement homes better understand reporting expectations and navigate common reporting scenarios.
The guidance includes:
- Information on what may constitute a reportable matter
- Key considerations when assessing incidents
- Guidance on when and how to submit a report
- An overview of what to expect after a report has been submitted
We encourage licensees and operators to review the compliance guidance and share it with staff. By promoting a clear understanding of reporting obligations, the guidance supports consistent reporting practices across the sector and helps strengthen protections for residents.

This resource is the first in a series of compliance guidance documents we’ll be releasing over the coming months to support compliance and provide practical tools and the sector.
We would like to thank the members of our Stakeholder Advisory Council (SAC), Licensee Engagement Forum (LEF), and sector partners, including the Ontario Retirement Communities Association (ORCA) and Advantage Ontario, for their valuable input during the development of this guidance. Their feedback and collaboration were invaluable throughout the development process and helped inform this resource.
