RHRA’s Frank Kajfes Resident Champion Award is presented to a retirement home resident who has created a noticeable impact on the quality of life for residents through their direct actions or endeavours. We know many retirement home residents have gone to great lengths to help others in their communities and the RHRA wants to recognize their efforts.
Nomination Criteria
Nominees must be a resident in a licensed retirement home. Search for licensed retirement homes on the RHRA’s Retirement Home database.
Specific examples of the impact of their work must be included in the submission.
Preference will be given to nominees whose actions have had a broad impact on many seniors or several, versus on one individual.
Nominations close Friday, July 25th, 2025.
Selection Process
The RHRA will review each nomination, and the RHRA’s Stakeholder Advisory Council will select the winner. The winner will be announced at the RHRA’s virtual Annual General Meeting and Recognition Event on September 17, 2025.
Frank Kajfes
The RHRA is honoured to name the Resident Champion Award after Frank Kajfes, a beloved member of the Stakeholder Advisory Council (SAC). Frank was devoted to improving the lives of seniors and the lives of the people in his retirement home community. As an educator, he was generous, humorous and optimistic and believed in the importance of empowering people through education. In his later years, that passion translated into his work to empower seniors to stay informed and know their rights so that they can live in security and with dignity in a retirement home. These qualities also shape the RHRA’s mandate. Frank’s ideas were intelligent, respectful, honest, practical and inclusive. He joined SAC on January 1, 2016. Sadly, he passed away in November 2016. Frank’s legacy as a member of SAC lives on in the Resident Champion Award.
