The RHRA releases guidance document on Personal Assistance Services Devices
March 20, 2025
We are pleased to announce the release of our Personal Assistance Services Device (PASD) Guidance Document.
All licensed retirement homes are required to have a written policy on the use of PASDs, which includes staff duties and responsibilities in assisting residents who require them. To promote resident dignity, safety and well-being, the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 also requires all staff to be trained on their home-specific PASD policy.
Staff training on the home-specific policy has been identified as a common citation during routine inspections, demonstrating an opportunity to foster greater clarity among the sector through guidance and support.
We encourage licensees and operators to review the guidance document to gain clarity on topics such as what is considered a PASD, requirements for the use of PASDs and requirements for your PASD policy and staff training.
If you have any questions or need support, we encourage you to contact the Licensee Engagement and Support team through 1-855-ASK-RHRA (1-855-275-7472) or info@rhra.ca.
