New Resource for Licensees/Operators: Abuse and Neglect Guidance Document
April 4, 2024
The RHRA has launched a new resource for licensed retirement homes to support compliance with the Retirement Homes Act, 2010 (the Act) and Ontario Regulation 166/11 (the Regulation). The Abuse and Neglect Guidance Document is intended to inform licensees and operators of their obligations to protect residents from abuse and prevent neglect. As a valuable resource to the sector, the guidance document helps readers better understand the key elements required to comply with the Act.
The RHRA encourages licensees/operators and retirement home staff to review the guidance document and regularly review abuse and neglect policies and procedures in place at their home(s).
The Abuse and Neglect Guidance Document includes:
- Definition and considerations of the different types of abuse and neglect
- Guidance for remaining in compliance with the Act and Regulation
- Steps licensees/operators are obligated to take to protect residents from abuse and prevent neglect
As part of our commitment to the retirement home sector, the RHRA will continue to develop resources that support licensees and operators in achieving and maintaining compliance with the Act. The RHRA is currently developing scenario-based compliance assistance modules to complement this Guidance Document, which will be released later in 2024.
