RHRA appoints new Risk Officer

We are pleased to announce that Kevin McCarthy has been appointed as the RHRA’s Risk Officer, effective March 2024, for a three-year term. The Risk Officer is a statutory role that reports to the Board, exercising independent and critical decision making.
The Risk Officer’s mandate is to review and assess the effectiveness of the RHRA’s administration of the Act and regulations, including activities to ensure licensees meet the care and safety standards in the Act, and respect the rights of residents.
Kevin McCarthy brings with him extensive experience working closely and effectively with Boards of Directors and Governance Committees. He has extensive knowledge of administering legislation and oversight of regulatory activities. In the past Kevin’s accountabilities have included reviews of various regulatory bodies and providing organizational reporting to Boards and stakeholders.
As the Risk Officer is an independent, part-time role, Kevin is also the Vice President for The Regulator’s Practice, a consultancy that supports organizations who serve and protect the public. In this leadership position, Kevin supports a broad range of regulatory practitioners and organizations across Canada. He has served as a Public Advisory Committee Member on the Condominium Management Regulatory Authority of Ontario, a Public Member of Discipline and Fitness to Practice Committees for the College of Teachers of Ontario, and is currently the Chair of the Governance Committee for the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario. Previously, Kevin served as the Director of Strategy at the College of Nurses of Ontario.
