Elevated Alert Areas: Retirement Homes
Updated March 23, 2021
Effective December 8, 2020
As the province moves into a second wave of COVID-19, Ontario has developed a risk-based response system to continue to balance retirement home resident and staff safety with well-being. For the retirement homes sector, the Ontario government has established elevated alert areas based on the degree of COVID-19 transmission in a community and infection spread within the retirement homes. The Retirement Home COVID-19 Visiting Policy (effective December 11, 2020) and any visitor restrictions are geared to these alert levels. This at-a-glance chart can help you understand what restrictions are in place for each of the alert levels, and for homes that are experiencing an outbreak.
